BACK TO THE BASICS: YOGA FOR A HAPPY AND HEALTHY SPINE WITH DR. E

One of the most common reasons people practice Yoga is to take their health and well-being into their own hands and personally support their bodies, hearts, and minds in feeling good. Famed transcendentalist poet and noted yogi, Ralph Waldo Emerson, called this process self-reliance. For those who value DIY-ing their healthcare, this therapeutically-natured “Back To The Basics” Yoga class will offer wonderful, simple, effective, practical, and clinically-validated back care techniques that can be applied in one’s Yoga practice and in one’s life to create better balance and help you heal your back. Sharing and discussing research from the experts in sports science, physical rehabilitation, and Yoga therapy, Malibu-based Chiropractor and USC Yoga + Mind-Body Health Adjunct Professor, Dr. Eden Goldman, will highlight ways to take better care of your spine and posture while also guiding participants through a fun, adaptive, and breath-oriented Yoga movement class with a lovely and restorative relaxation period at the end. I. Introduction of the workshop (15 min): introduce techniques that may aid the next practice, and an interesting experience that motivates the audience to follow along.
II. Yoga session (1 hour 10 min): teach about basic support, self-care mechanisms, etc. potentially some tips for stretching that are “office-friendly”, taking advantage of tables/chairs/walls instead of mats.
III. Q&A + body mapping exercise (30 min): I will invite people to reflect upon their experience and feelings on paper in a body-shape figure. This will also be a good time for introducing the “Instagram challenge”.
